WHAT IS IT?

Much like a sports pick-up game, PUG Improv is a show made up by the participants that night.

  • Show up before 8pm
  • Pay $5 cover to play
  • You will randomly be put on a team with a pre-selected coach
  • The coach will have a very simple form for your newly-created team, and will lead warm ups. You’ll also create a team name
  • Your team will play during the designated slot!

how can i coach?

Coaches are chosen well in advance by the organizers of PUG Improv.

We ask that each coach come prepared with a simple form and 5-7 minutes of their favorite warm ups.

The coach will be given a team of random players of all experience levels. Once each team is chosen, the coach and team will be given a space within the theater to warm up.

The warm up will consist of a round of introductions, 5-7 minutes of fun improv warmups, and a brief explanation on the simple form they will be performing. If there’s time, you may even try the form out.

Who are the upcoming coaches? Check out the Facebook Event for more info!

are there rules?

Sort of.

Our goal is for PUG Improv to be a safe space where improvisers can explore the art form in a unique way – with a team of improvisers you may have never met, playing a form you may have never played.

We know that in experiences like this, things happen. If something slips out? We want to presume positive intent, and hope that the group of random improvisers come each night with the goal of making each other look good.

“If we treat each other as if we are geniuses, poets, and artists, we have a better chance of becoming that on stage.”

However, we will not shy away from tough discussions. Problematic behavior is not conducive to a safe atmosphere. If there is a pattern of behavior, the organizers of PUG Improv will speak with the individual and the proper action will be taken.
